I. The New Sun
the sun rose on the only other
planet and from a lofty summit
my telescope spotted this lonely
neighbor whirling in its elliptical
orbit which had
been lost
since prehistory
when only
mammoth beasts
had plodded
the terrains
of these
disparate worlds
brought together
by chance
in the dawn of
consciousness,
awakening
the passion and
dance of
a billion electrified dreams

in the wake of their mutual gravity.

II. The Many Phases of Eve
a terrific noise scattered the
leaves revealing the true face of
my sweetest foe, seizing my gaze,
leaving me trembling in the face of
a bitter sun just appearing through
parted clouds—willfully I resigned
myself to the fate of the blinding
rays and now, through the glare, I
spy the long lost beat which had
left my rhythm awkwardly syncopated,
the forgotten toys of childhood
and the swirling hues limitless in
the eyes that promised nothing but
gave everything just the same.
